SEN Learning Mentor (Primary Specialist)

Location: Wigan

This rewarding role involves supporting pupils aged 4-11 with a range of additional learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), sensory needs, and associated social, emotional and behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with special educational needs.
• Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons.
• Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and social development.
• Promote positive behaviour strategies and encourage independence.
• Adapt learning activities to suit individual learning styles and abilities.
• Work closely with teachers, therapists, support staff, and parents to support pupil progress.
• Ensure the safety, wellbeing, and safeguarding of all pupils at all times.
• Assist with personal care where required.

Requirements

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN, either in schools, care, youth work, or support settings.
• A patient, resilient, and positive attitude.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations.
• Understanding of SEN needs such as ASC, SLD, MLD, and communication difficulties is desirable.
• Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Health & Social Care, Psychology, or related fields are advantageous.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Teaching Personnel.
